The Ghost of the Tour de l’Île

An honest Genevese cloth merchant is falsely accused of theft in the 14th century and convicted by a corrupt city councillor, leading to his cruel torture and execution. He swears with a curse never to leave the tower until the truth is revealed – and indeed, the councillor confesses shortly before his death. Since then, the beheaded merchant haunts the Tour de l’Île and torments night watchmen with dull moans and eerie sounds.
